How To Become A Home teacher

Posted by teacher on December 30, 2010

In order to become a home school teacher you do not need some specific technical requirements . What you need to have is the yearning to teach your children.

If you believe in the benefits of homeschooling, then, you could be a homeschool teacher. In homeschooling, the parents-turned-home-school-teacher can freely incorporate the right values and knowledge that they want their child to know. With homeschooling, you have the option to teach your own child in ways that follow a particular homeschool curriculum. Hence, the learning process is not limited with the rules and regulations set by the typical school system.

Teaching your children how to learn things and how to achieve something in life will be a rewarding experience, as you watch them grow and achieve successful. Home schooling is a rapidly spreading alternative form of education. It requires a strong desire, but nothing too stringent. Even parents without a high school diploma can handle it.

Planning for Home school

Planning is essential for home schooling to make the flow of things smoother. Plan first the location. An extra room around the house can be perfect; however, if none is available, the dining room or the living room will do fine. Try using durable plastic bins as storage for the books, supplies, equipment and other stuff as well.

Also, include in the schedule the amount of time allotted for each subject.

Looking Up Resources and Instructional Materials

You do not need to put too much strain on the family budget to afford materials for home school instruction. If no curriculum is being followed, try to schedule enough topics and projects to last the whole school year. One can get tips online on which lessons to include plus the scope and the proper sequencing of lessons.

Finding the Right Curriculum

If the parents are trying to adapt one for their child, it is important to determine the means the child learns best, by first-hand experience, listening, reading or the like.

Home schooling is a great educational experience for both parents and children. It is for the parents to be resourceful and creative to maximize the resources and the learning of their children.

Questions for determining teachers potential

Posted by teacher on December 29, 2010

I am well-versed at integrating computer technology into the classroom, what kind of resources does the school have available?

Do teachers work in teams? If so, how is this organized?

I have always been successful with getting parents involved in the classroom, how active are parents at this school or within the school district?

What is the student/teacher ratio?

I have been instrumental in developing new programs in previous positions I have held. Will the school be implementing any new programs this year, or require input to develop programs already in place?

Will the school be addressing any major issues this year?

I consider myself a life-long learner, what professional development opportunities will be available?

If you are new to the industry you may ask, “Is there a mentor teacher program available?”

When do you hope to reach a decision as to who the successful candidate will be, or what is the next step in the hiring process?

How to handle classroom discipline

Posted by teacher on December 16, 2010

The answer will vary at large as it depends on teaching style, grade interviewing for, and past experiences. However a teacher should draw out a plan and try to implement it if discipline is an important part of the position. Coaching clients fail to provide a clear action plan that can be backed up with examples. Also it is important to find out what is the philosophy of the school or district, this will give you some additional information.

You will want to get an example of your plan; use a real situation to show your expertise in this very important area. Whether you use the red light/green light, time-outs, or removing the student from the classroom, it is important that you can back up why it is effective and use examples. You will want to explain why you feel the discipline action is effective and why you enjoy using it.

It is important to develop ground rules the first week of class, this allows the students to understand what is and isn’t acceptable behavior.

These rules are discussed and agreed upon with the students, this makes the students accountability and responsible. You may want to touch on your philosophy of classroom discipline. This of course would depend on your style; you will have to be honest with yourself. But you may believe that you reduce negative behavior by offering the students a intellectually stimulating, organized, and respectful environment.

It is also important to indicate there are always two sides to every story, so if the action involves discipline of two students, you must listen to both sides. Make sure that you try to get the students to resolve their own disagreements, which may involve compromise. And resolve the problem by asking yourself, “How will you handle the situation next time?”

Tips for becoming a good teacher

Posted by teacher on December 2, 2010

A teacher should be detail oriented. If one is disorganized person in his/her private life, than that person will find teaching probably uncomfortable. At the very least, teachers must be organized in their professional and teaching duties. If one is not organized and are not detail oriented, he/she may not be the best choice for the profession.

A teacher should be a good managers of time. Time is one of the most precious resources a teacher has. Good teachers have learned to use this resource wisely.

Teaching is an odd profession, both revered and pitied at the same time. You will probably find that when you tell others you are a teacher they will in fact offer you their condolences. They might even say they couldn’t do your job. However, don’t be surprised if they then go on to tell you a horror story about their own teachers or their child’s education. It is an odd situation and you should face it with your eyes wide open.

A teacher should have good sense of humor. Research has consistently shown that good teachers have a sense of humor, and that they are able to use humor as part of their teaching methods. Humor, used properly, can be a powerful addition to any lesson.

A teacher must like childrens, especially students in the age range in which they intend to teach. Most teachers choose an area of specialization such as elementary education, special education, secondary education, or higher education because they have a temperament for students in those age ranges. If you are not comfortable working with young children, don’t major in elementary education!

Everyone has an opinion of what a teacher should be doing. As a teacher you will have a lot of people pulling you in different directions. The modern teacher wears many hats. They act as educator, coach, activity sponsor, nurse, career advisor, parent, friend, and innovator. Realize that in any one class, you will have students of varying levels and abilities and you will be judged on how well you can reach each student by individualizing their education. This is the challenge of education but at the same time can make it a truly rewarding experience.
