Good Teachers Never Have Enough Time

Just about all of the good teachers I have known are eternally busy. They work 80-100 hour weeks, including both Saturdays and Sundays. Their spouses and families complain, with good reason, that they rarely see them. The reward for all this busy-ness is more busy-ness. The good teachers draw the most students, get the most requests for letters of recommendation, work most diligently at grading papers, give the most office hours and are most frequently visited during those office hours, are most in demand for committee work, work hardest at class preparations, work hardest at learning their students’ names, take the time to give students counsel in areas that have nothing to do with specific courses, are most involved in professional activities off campus.

For good teachers the day is never done. While it does not follow that any teacher who keeps busy is a good teacher, the good teachers I know rarely have time to relax. The good teachers I know find that they are as busy teaching two courses as teaching three. They know that they do a much better job with the two courses than the three because they give more time to the individual students, but they also know that for a responsible teacher the work of good teaching expands to fill every moment they can give to it. They might well complain about how busy they are, but they rarely complain, partly because they don’t want to take the time to, partly because they don’t like whining. Actually, they seem rather to like being busy. To put it more accurately, they like helping students-singular and plural-and have not found many workable shortcuts to doing so.

Teacher Resume Tips and Essentials

A Teacher resume should be a brief written document which provides principals with as much evidence as you can give them that you will be a good teacher. The strongest evidence of potential to teach is experience with children or teens. In addition, any”real world”experiences with mathematics or science may be of interest to the reader.

If you are a beginning teacher, your resume should not be more than one page. If you have two or more years’ experience in the classroom, you may need two pages to adequately convey your experiences and contributions to the classroom and school.

Four required elements in teacher Resume

Identification : Include your name, address, phone, and email address. Your name should be in the biggest print on the page, three or four sizes bigger than the other print.

Certification : List your certification and any endorsements, and the date.”Illinois Initial Secondary Certificate in Mathematics, expected December 2001. Endorsement expected in Middle Grade Mathematics.”Once you have your certificate, delete the date and list the certificate number instead, for instance : #1234567.

Teaching Experience : Use the list of action verbs located on the left of this page to describe your experiences in the classroom. They especially like to read about your classroom management skills/strategies, the teaching methods you use, any experience with students with special needs, and interactions with parents. Include job title, where you did this activity, and when (Student Teacher, DuSable High School, Spring 2001.)

Related Experience : This is where you list paid or unpaid work which gave you experiences which will help you be a better teacher–camp counselor, tutor, etc. You can also list science- or math-related employment in this section.

Advantages Of Teaching In India

In India, there are ample job options for English teachers. Indians always had a penchant for English and now English is the ticket to a successful career. Whosoever wants to improve career prospects, feels the importance of being conversant in English. Parents want to provide their children with English education not because it is a status language but because it will provide them a head start in life. Consequently the need for qualified English teachers is clearly on the rise. Teachers are needed not only in the schools or universities but are also employed as trainers in corporate offices and language schools.

With the recent boom in the BPO industry, there is a high demand of voice and accent trainers in this country. Many companies also hire TESOL certified English teachers for teaching their employees soft skills. The reason behind India’s flourishing BPO industry is that India, is one of the few densely populated countries where the population can easily pick up the language as they are familiar with English owing to their colonial past. India has become a major outsourcing giant as she can provide cheap skilled English speaking employees needed to support such service industry. This has further increased the demand for English.

The positive points for teaching in India are:

*India is a beautiful country with variety of landscapes and culture. It takes a long time to explore this exotic land. So if the teachers work here as teachers they will have plenty of time in their hands to see this beautiful country and also at the same time earn enough to support themselves here.
*In India, the ESL teachers will be given 10 to 15 thousand rupees per month along with accommodation.
*The above-mentioned amount is enough to survive in India comfortably. They can also go for holidays in the weekends after saving from the salary.
*While teaching in India, the teachers will be able to understand and come close to the culture of this country.
*Moreover, a few years of ESL job experience in India can help you get s better paying job in the Middle East or Northern Asia.

Student-Teacher Relationships

It is important to remember that every child`s relationship with his or her teacher can influence its academic success. The important dynamics to consider are whether or not there is a real communicative difficulty between the children and their teachers, and how do you begin to intervene to resolve those difficulties. As children learn and grow, expectations also grow. However, some children actually find themselves in vulnerable and sometimes even unfair positions since sometimes teachers actually do have personality issues with their students.

A unique aspect of such a relationship is that the student is, at the same time, both student and colleague. In a healthy student-teacher relationship, the student is encouraged and expected to be candid in responding to the teacher`s ideas, methods, or words. Part of a teacher`s role is to acquaint the student, not only with the specialized field that is shared, but also with the other leaders in the field and with the ways of professional and academic life.

In an academic environment, the mentor must also serve as an evaluator of the student`s performance. This role may be reflected in relatively immediate functions, such as grading, or in more temporally indefinite functions such as the writing of letters of recommendation for advanced training, licensure, or career opportunities.

Teachers like Guru Kelucharan Mahapatra, Pandit Jasraj and others resurrected the arts from the morass of moral turpitude and created a pool of young talent. We need teachers like them who understand the sanctity of the guru-shishya relationship and are able to inculcate the love of knowledge in their students.

The student-teacher relationship traditionally has held special problems for women. Female teachers have been particularly scarce. And when a man becomes interested in guiding and advising a younger woman, there is usually an erotic interest that goes along with it. What follows from that are many combinations we can easily recognize: producer and star, professor and graduate student, doctor and nurse, director and actress, and so on. There is also a necessary limit to the personal, social, or even sexual interaction that may be experienced between student and teacher without compromising one`s professional responsibilities.
